It’s New Logic.
The Nest is the work positioning solution for modern tree climbers.
-
With the KBNest, Isolation of your TIP on your initial throw into the tree crown is not necessary. When you arrive at your TIP after ascending your basal tied system you can establish a canopy anchor in seconds without dismantling your belay device. If you haven’t reached your desired high point in the crown, advancing your system is done quickly.
-
If one line isn’t enough for the job establish two- if two isn’t enough establish three-lines. SRS or DRT.
-
Any level of climber can master basic configurations of the Nest anchor in minutes. Whether your retrieving 1, 2 or 3 systems, no hardware is required to pass through the TIP on retrieval, and no hardware is required to pull through a spliced eye or stitched eye on the anchor itself.
With the second work line climbers can retrieve the whole system with control,” soft catching” the anchor and ropes,
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING…
Patrick Fitch
Lead Climber @tiedyeclimber
“I do lot of pruning and supplemental supports on widespread hardwoods, so I’m always looking for canopy anchors that will help me achieve the limits of the crown.
I wanted to really put this thing through the paces before leaving a review. I was skeptical at first. It looked bulky and complicated. First day using it, I dry ran it on the ground. That’s when I realized it wasn’t as complicated as I was making it out to be. Set up is super simple and I love the fact that I can stay on rope while building it. Retrieval is as smooth as it gets. I’ve pulled out 2 climb lines with a minimum of 5 natural redirects each with ease. You can soft catch it with your access or secondary. Honestly, I could write pages on this anchor. It’s what I grab now for any work I’m doing aloft other than removals.
If you can dream it, you can build it with this anchor. Whether it be double rope, or multiple stationary lines. It’s been a more efficient and safe way for me to build canobase systems. The midline attach ability is huge for me. Also, the retrieval and the fact that I can basically pull out as many natural redirects as I want is amazing. HIGHLY recommend this product. Awesome job Phillip.”

“The KBNest is a brand new take on the retrievable anchor. The combination of features makes it much more versatile and expands its utility beyond just an anchor…If you use an aerial friction saver or anchor in your climbing system then this is worth a try. It makes setting up easy, and it offers multiple options for DRT or SRT configurations.”
Jeff Inman
Production Manager and Climber
“Great design to have a device that allows for an easy transition from basal anchor to canopy anchor. It has lots of options that help solve modern issues in climbing operations. Oftentimes I install a basal anchor for the simplicity of access, but don’t want to stay anchored that way for the exposure of ropes potentially in the way of operations. This allows for a quick and easy way to switch to a canopy anchor and install multiple ropes at once.”

“The KBNest is versatile making it applicable in multiple situations.”

Owner and Climber with Dayvis Tree Care
“Phillip came out to one of my job sites and he utilized the KBNest on a 95 foot tall Cottonwood. From 1 anchor point with the KBNest he was able to set up 3 different climbing lines and access 3 very difficult areas of the tree. It was amazing to see the speed in which he was set up and ready to work and the benefit of having 1 anchor point with 3 climbing lines ready to go. It is very easy to use and will save you a lot of time setting up and moving around the tree.”
The Principles
The Need
To stay alive. To not damage property or injure lives and to get the job done efficiently. Time saved in the tree equals greater margins of profit, more energy for the next climb and more time to spend on other important things in life.
Work positioning. All of the canopy anchors today are based on the same logic, a logic that works well for MRS systems. And the SRS anchor systems developed by hard working climbers have one or more significant drawbacks for the modern climber who wants to maximize work positioning in the least amount of time while using SRS. Some specific problems are; Exposed life support line and often limited redirect potentials when working off of a basal tied system. An unacceptable amount of time setting up a canopy anchor. Isolating your line for retrieval purposes. Massive time waste trying to advance your SRS canopy anchor to a more desirable TIP. Severely limited redirects when using your access line as a component of your canopy anchor (i.e. choking your tie in point with your climbing line). Risk of getting the anchor stuck somewhere in the process of retrieving it and your ropes. All of these problems put a strain on the climber when trying to maximize work positioning and minimize setup and egress times.
The Problem
An anchor that doesn’t require the climber to change their techniques or learn new hard skills, one that can mid-line attach onto your access line right at your high point, turning your basal anchored access line into a canopy anchored work positioning line in 30 seconds or less, substantially increasing safety and efficiency by making a work positioning line with unlimited redirect potentials out of your access line that you worked hard to get into the tree. If you need to advance your anchor because you realized a better high point above you, but you’ve already setup a knot blocked SRS canopy anchor, no problem, it only takes a few seconds to unclip one side of your anchor and advance it, then re-attach. Once you're happy with your high tie in point, you can get to work going through all the redirects your job requires for optimal work positioning.
Let’s say you are working a sprawling tree, a branchy conifer or multiple trees in close proximity, and you wish you had more work positioning options with another rope, you can add one into the anchor and in a minute, you have another completely independent line in the same anchor in which you can strategically throw into a distant redirect on that sprawling tree, the other side of the branchy conifer or a totally different tree. No need to go up and down through redirects or establish a second anchor in a distant high point. And when you're finished with the job, you can retrieve your systems without excessive friction, despite the ten or more redirects you took. What's more, because you added a second line for access, it also doubles as a soft catch for your anchor system and at no extra cost of setup time. If two ropes aren't enough for work positioning, then add three and soft catch that too. This is the KBNest anchor! Its only limits to work positioning are the user’s own creativity
The Solution
THE STEP-BY-STEP SETUP PROCESS:
STEP 1:
Pass the large sewn eye side of the tether around your SRS line
STEP 3:
Pass the Nest over your T.I.P
STEP 4:
Clip the Nest into your SRS line
STEP 6:
To retrieve the Nest, remove your belay device
Pass the large sewn eye over the Nest device to Midline attach the SRS line.
STEP 2:
Tie Alpine Butterfly to Block the SRS. You are now ready to work.
STEP 5:
Retrieval. Tie an overhand knot and pull the resting end of the rope through the leather hoop and out of the tree
STEP 7:
Two anchor points, Two suspension systems. One climber
For the Nest anchor, versatility by the use of two independent suspension systems provides a solution for many people in a variety of different industries. Including tree climbing, rope access and rope rescue.
A close up of the illustration above. The Nest is a simple tool with remarkable application.
Simplicity. Two SRS systems
The KBNest easily opens up positional access to more areas of the tree, centralized through one soft retrievable anchor
More to come.
Simplicity is a good word to describe the KBNest.

PHILLIP
Climber, arborist, & steward of the KBNest
I started working ground crew and eventually climbing for my brother's company in 2005. My career progressed and took me to a variety of states and countries working as a groundy, then climber and eventually an ISA certified arborist. I started my company in 2015, today we own and operate Tree Steward LLC in the beautiful Northern Black Hills of South Dakota. In addition to tree climbing my love of the vertical world has brought me to rope access and rock climbing. These three disciplines combined three of my favorite things in life, nature, exercise and rope craft.
In 2020 I realized a need for a midline attachable SRS canopy anchor, but I couldn't find one. So, I began the process of inventing the KBNest I am proud to provide a solution to a real problem for many tree climbers and beyond.
Today we are ready to release the KBNest. anchor. The KBNest TM. is patented and is the first midline attachable SRS canopy anchor.
